If you are looking for something extra to do while in the Magic Kingdom be sure to check out the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom game. In this fun interactive adventure, park guests can help Merlin (the magician from Sword in the Stone) defeat popular Disney villains that are up to no good by solving missions throughout the park.
Where does Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom start?
You will need to begin your adventure on Main Street in the Firehouse (on the left as you enter the park).
Once inside, you will present your MagicBand (or park ticket) to get everything you will need to go on your adventure.
You will be given Merlin’s mystical map, a set of spell cards and go through training on how to unlock the Magic Portals in the park and defeat the dastardly evildoers.
Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Spell Cards
There are 70 different Spell Cards available. Each person gets one pack per day. There are 5 Spell Cards in a pack.
There are a special holiday party cards for both Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. These cards change every year and are some of the most sought after by collectors!
I would suggest getting all members of your party a set of playing cards even if you aren’t all planning to play.
Each Spell Card set is random, so if you are interested in collecting the cards, you have a better chance of getting different ones with multiple packs.
When using Spell Cards, you can use a single card or a combination of cards (with a maximum of 7).
How do you play Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom?
When you receive your map & Spell Cards, you will be assigned a land to begin your adventure. You will get to choose between Adventureland, Fantasyland, Frontierland and along Main Street, U.S.A. to start your adventure.
You will find the starting location that is shown on the map and look for the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom logo on the ground.
Stand on the logo and hold your Key Card directly in front of you. When you do this, a hidden screen should appear to you with further information.
It will either tell you to go to another location OR will explain your mission.
You will watch a short video detailing what the villain has done and how you need to defeat that particular villain.
It is up to you to choose the right Spell Card(s) to defeat that particular villain.
At the appropriate time, you will hold up the Spell Card in front of you (toward the screen) to watch the spell unfold on the Villain in question.
It may immediately destroy the villain, the villain may give you another opportunity for battle or might beat you.
Whatever happens, be sure to pay attention to the directions on how to proceed in the game.
How Long does Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Game take?
Each portal will take approximately 15-20 minutes (depending if there is a line prior to arriving).
How Do You Win the Game?
The goal of the game is to defeat all the villains in Magic Kingdom, including Hades.
This does not have to be done all in one visit.
Your game play will be recorded on your MagicBand and as long as you play within a set amount of time (I believe this is for one year), your game will be saved so you can pick up where you left off.
Guests who beat Hades (completing the game) are able to play again at a different level of difficulty or remain at the same level if they would like to play again.
Review of Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom
The Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is really a neat interactive experience, but can be confusing if you don’t follow the directions and constantly refer back to your map.
Be prepared for a great deal of walking and searching for the spots marked with the Sorcerers of Magic Kingdom Logo.
Part of what I enjoyed most about this interactive experience is that it takes you to spots you might not otherwise have noticed or made time to visit.
One of my favorites locations to play Sorcerers of Magic Kingdom was in the Main Street Cinema Art of Disney on Main Street USA.
A painting actually comes to life!
Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Tip
You can get a free set of Spell cards each time you go to Magic Kingdom. I suggest getting a small binder to carry your cards in so that they don’t get damaged.
