Disney World Sword in the Stone Hidden Gem

The Disney World parks are known to have several Hidden Gems.  One of our favorite Magic Kingdom secrets is the Sword in the Stone. This unassuming monument is a great place to take a photo, but it also contains some magical Disney powers.

Unfamiliar with Sword in the Stone?

Sword in the Stone Movie

This 1963 Disney animated classic tells the story of a 12 year of Arthur who will one day become the King of England.

Part of the reason Sword in the Stone is so iconic is that it was the last animated film to be released during Walt Disney’s lifetime

When you first look at the monument, the sword appears to be encased in an anvil.

BUT if you read the plaque on the front, you will find out that it is possible to remove the sword.

Whoso Pullath out this sword of this stone and anvil is rightwise ruler born of England.

If you are able to release the sword from the stone, you can claim to be the Hero of Fantasyland!

Who wouldn’t want this honor?

While at the monument, we each tried with all our might to release the sword from the stone, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Can you pull the sword from the stone at Disney World?

Yes, you certainly can pull the sword from the stone.

Don’t believe me?

If you happen upon the Royal Majesty Makers in Fantasyland, they sometimes perform a show and choose a child to pull the sword from the stone*

*The sword in the stone doesn’t fully come out, but is able to be lifted up about 6-10 inches.

We were at Disney with a bunch of friends. We stopped and watched several people trying to lift the sword out. Nobody could do it. While we watched and were talking about it a woman said it can be lifted. We all said no way we have watched all day long and nobody has done it. People were struggling as we talked about it and still nobody did it. She then said no my husband said he saw a girl do it once. So she asked him and he laughed and said yes I saw a little girl lift it once. So we all laughed and the woman said to her husband, “you are not going to tell me when we get back to the room that you were kidding are you. He laughed and said no I’m being serious. I looked it up online and saw this article. I start saying “oh they let a kid lift it every now and then after a show. It has to be after a show” So we all turn and my 7 year old son walks up and has his hands on the sword. My friend laughs and says wait nobody is going to take a picture of this? I start laughing and said I know right. My son pulls it and it comes out. He’s smiling. I was stunned and was like oh my god. Wait a minute. Don’t let go!!!!’ I got a quick video and pictures. Everyone was screaming and going bezerk. It was awesome. Made my entire vacation.

On June 23rd, 2018. My daughter Melissa Ortega celebrated her 50th birthday at Disney world. Just for fun she tried to pull the sword. We all tried. Her pull worked and we have pictures. No one else was around as we had an early pass.
