One thing you will want to take advantage of while on vacation in Disney World is the Disney Fastpass system. It is a way for you took book rides and attractions in advance; allowing you to skip to the front of the line. In order to make the most of this system, you will want to understand how it works, which rides you can use it for and a few other Disney Fastpass secrets that only Disney insiders know.

Booking Disney World Fastpasses Online

How Does the Disney Fastpass Work?

Once you have your Disney vacation booked, open the My Disney Experience app, and navigate to the Fastpass screen.

If you are staying at a Disney World Resort, you can book your Disney Fastpasses 60 days before your trip.

Disney Annual Passholders and Non-resort guests can make their Fastpass selections 30 days in advance of their trip.

These dates are really important because the earlier you book, the better chance you will have of getting the most popular Disney World Fastpass reservations.

When it is time to make your Disney World fastpass reservations, you will be able to choose up to three Disney Fastpass rides &/or attractions per day.

The three you choose will have to be at the same park, regardless of whether you are park hopping or not.

Not everyone in your party has to have the same Disney World Fastpass reservations. You can easily attach Fastpasses to either everyone in your party OR to different individuals.

Disney Fastpass Rules

When booking your Disney Fastpass reservations, keep in mind the Fastpass reservation times.

You cannot book more than one Fastpass at the same time.

For example, if you book at Fastpass from 1-2pm, you cannot reserve another Fastpass for 1:30-2:30 even if your intention is to be off the ride by 1:15.

Once your Fastpass Reservations are booked, they will be attached to your account until you change them.

You can change them any time! Simply log into your account or use one of the Fastpass Kiosks at the park to move things around to suit your needs.

After you start your vacation inside the Disney parks, just make sure that you pay attention to the My Disney Experience app to keep track of the times you reserved.

If you miss a reservation, it will no longer be available to you and you wasted a valuable experience of skipping the line.

Fastpass Secrets for Disney World

How to Use a Disney Fastpass

When you are ready to use the Disney Fastpass, just look for the designated Fastpass line for the ride or attraction.

They are typically near the main entrance to the ride, but sometimes are on an opposite side.  Just be on the look out for the signs or ask a Castmember at the entrance.

Using MagicBand for Fastpasses

Once at the Fastpass entrance you will be asked to scan your ticket or Disney MagicBand so that the cast members can check your time.

Don’t bother going to this line in advance of your allotted time as it will not work until the exact time on your reservation.

Once you have used up your first three FastPass+ selections, you are able to make additional Fastpass selections one at a time.

You can do this either on the My Disney Experience app or at one of the FastPass kiosks.

How Much Does the Disney Fastpass Cost?

Unlike Universal Studios where you must purchase an express pass to skip the lines for rides, Disney Fastpasses are available to all park guests for free with your admission to the park.

1. When choosing times for your Disney Fastpasses, you are better off stacking them early in the day so that you can add other reservations for later in the afternoon or evening.

2. Although you should choose your Fastpasses for early in the day, don’t waste a Fastpass on your first ride of the day. Give yourself at least one hour in the park prior to your first reservation.
This will allow you to ride at least one ride before the lines get long.

3. Avoid booking your Fastpasses during the parade & during fireworks. These are usually the best time to stand in lines for rides because most of the people are watching the parade or fireworks and not standing in line for rides!

4. Be aware of ride locations. The last thing you want to do is book two Epcot Fastpasses back to back that will take you from World Showcase to Future World. The walk is as far as it gets!

5. If you are park hopping at Disney World, you will want to use your first three Fastpass Reservations at the first park you go to, then you will be able to choose additional Fastpasses for the second park you are going to visit (one at a time).

6. When a ride is unavailable due to technical difficulties or weather, you will receive another FastPass in your My Disney Experience account.

7. There are times when you will be gifted Fastpasses. It can be done by any Disney Cast member and you never know when you might get lucky and find another Fastpass added to your account!

Check your My Disney Experience app throughout the day because you never know when a gifted Fastpass might appear.

8. If you are having a difficult time finding reservations for all people in your party, consider adding a Fastpass to each person in your party one at a time as they become available.

On our first trip to Disney World, I realized that when you make your first 3 Fast Passes, you should schedule them for as early in the morning as possible and as close together as possible, that way you can make plenty more, one at a time, for the rest of the day! It worked out perfectly for us and we rarely had to wait in lines, unless the Fast Pass lines were long!

I think the fast pass + is great and we had tested then in August 2013. We had suggested how it needs to change for park hoppers otherwise why buy the hopper. This change is good but I don't agree with first being able to add more one yours are used up. That's fine for those with the base pass but if you buy the hopper addition then you should be able to book two parks on one day (with their limit of 3 each) right up front in order to plan your trip. Otherwise on our next trip I will save the added cost and just do a base ticket. Plus another problem with waiting til your 3 are used up to add is when you schedule your fast passes online you choose from different times of the day. So if you chose late afternoon or evening by the time you use yours it is too late to add more...either will be filled up or to late to go to another park. WDW needs to rethink thus. It isn't a great update. Us regular disney travelers don't see this as a help for park hoppers.

I totally get your frustration. Park hopping certainly is tricky when it comes to FastPasses. I'm hoping that they will address this next. Seems like they still have some kinks to work out.
