What would you do if you were living with the love of your life on a solitary island, childless, and a small boat washes ashore carrying only one surviving person, a baby. This is the dilemma the main character faces in The Light Between Oceans.
Isabel (Alicia Vikander) becomes enamored by lighthouse keeper Tom Sherbourne (Michael Fassbender) when he visits her hometown. Soon the two fall in love & Isabel joins him on a remote island off the coast of Australia. After years of trying unsuccessfully to grow their family, Isabel finds that she is unable to bear children. The burden of this creates in her immense pain & agony.
Then one day, a boat arrives carrying the dead body of a man and a small infant. While Tom insists that they must report this tragedy, Isabel convinces him that the baby is actually a gift from God and that they should keep the baby and raise it as their own. As the child grows, so does their love for her. It seems as though life couldn’t be more perfect until a chance encounter with a grieving mother, who tells the story of a husband & child lost at sea. Will Isabel come clean or keep the secret knowing that in doing either, she will change the course of her young child’s life?
You will need to watch to find out just what happens!
