Disney Cruise Staterooms: Everything You Need to Know

When you begin planning your Disney Cruise, besides choosing the date & destination of your cruise, you will need to decide on a stateroom. Diferentiating staterooms on a Disney Cruise can be confusing because of the different cruise room types and catagories. Use this guide to help you better understand everything there is to know about Disney Cruise staterooms, including what you will find in them.

Everything to Know about Disney Cruise Staterooms

Disney Cruise Staterooms: Everything You Need to Know

There are four different categories of Disney Cruise rooms (and 10 types of Disney Cruise Staterooms) to choose from.

For first-time cruisers, it can be hard to understand the differences in the rooms.

Disney Cruise Room Types and Categories Explained

When choosing a Disney Cruise stateroom for your family, it is important to understand the room size, layout and features.

Interior Room on Disney magic

Interior Stateroom (Disney Cruise Rooms for 4)

Interior staterooms on Disney Cruise ships have about 169-184 square feet depending on the ship and where they are located.

It is the smallest & most affordable of the Disney Cruise cabins because there is no view of the ocean.

One of the benefits (besides price) is that interior rooms usually do not have as much sway as other rooms because of where they are located on the ship.

Another perk is that you will have no light to wake you in the morning, so you can sleep in as long as you would like without having any natural sunlight letting you know it is morning.

Magic Port Hole on Disney Dream & Fantasy

One of the benefits of having interior staterooms on the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish is that they have a virtual porthole.

Disney Fantasy Porthole

The porthole will either show a view of the port from the front of the ship or it will randomly display different Disney characters.

There are no virtual portholes on the Disney Wonder or Disney Magic at this time.

Disney Dream Room with a View

Oceanview Stateroom (Disney Cruise Rooms for 4)

These rooms are a little larger than interior rooms with a little over 200 square feet.

With this Disney Cruise room, guests have a view of the ocean, but the window will not open.

There is usually a window seat area so that guests can sit & enjoy the view.

There are curtains to close to further darken the room.

If you are someone who tends to get seasick, having a view of the water may help curtail the symptoms as it is said to help your brain deal with balancing the equilibrium.

Veranda Room on Disney Wonder

Verandah Stateroom (Disney Cruise Rooms for 4-5)

Not only will you have a view of the ocean, you will get a small seating area outside of the stateroom.

We always like this room because of the “extra” outdoor square footage.

Each room has a door that can be propped open to let in fresh air.

Another perk to having a veranda room is that you can place your wet swimwear out to dry.

Concierge Stateroom on Disney Dream

Concierge Stateroom (Disney Cruise Room for 6-7)

Talk about luxury. These fancy Disney Cruise line rooms have a separate bedroom area, and private balcony and have their own private lounge area that is packed with cold water and snacks.

This extra space is great for big families who aren’t easily confined to one small room.

The private lounge gives you a quiet space to get away (without having to be far from your own stateroom).

Reasons for Stateroom Price Variations

When trying to determine which Disney Cruise stateroom fits in your budget, you may find that there is only a small price difference between the inside cabins and those with a balcony on the Disney Dream, Fantasy & Wish ships while there is a much larger price difference between that on the Magic & Wonder.

This is because there are far fewer balcony rooms on the Magic and Wonder, causing them to be more in demand, and thus, more expensive.

Items in Disney Cruise Line Staterooms

Regardless of which ship you are on, you will find the following items in all Disney Cruise staterooms:

Hairdryer on Disney Cruise

Hair Dryer

Don’t waste your valuable packing space on a hair dryer.

All Disney Cruise staterooms come with one and it can be found, along with a heat-safe pad, inside one of the bureau drawers.

Inside your desk on Disney Cruise

Disney Cruise Post Cards & Disney Cruise Line Stationary

If you are considering sending a postcard home during your cruise, you don’t have to worry about buying them on board.

There are usually two postcards (featuring characters/ships) and some Disney Cruise Line stationary/envelopes inside the desk drawer.

One thing you will need is a stamp.  The best place to purchase one is Castaway Cay in the Bahamas.

Castaway Cay Post Office

You will walk right by the Post Office on your way to the beach.

This is a one-of-a-kind stamp you won’t be able to get anywhere else. Just make sure you have cash/change on hand.

Disney Cruise Line Retractable Pen

Disney Cruise Line Retractable Pen

There will be an ink pen in the desk drawer which is perfect for autographs!

There are also pens at the customer service desk if you forget one.

Shampoo, Body Lotion, and Hand Soap

Disney Cruise Line provides pump dispensers for body wash, shampoo and conditioner in the shower.

In the bathroom with shower, you will find a makeup towel and body lotion dispenser.

In the bathroom with a toilet, there is a soap dispenser to wash your hands.

Drinking Glasses

On your stateroom desk, you will find four drinking glasses.

These are great for when you bring back drinks to your room and don’t want them to leak out of the paper cups.

They are also great for when you bring your own wine or alcohol onboard and need a nice glass to drink from.

Safe

You’ll be able to lock away valuables if you feel unsafe leaving them out in your stateroom. The safe can be found inside the closet.

Just be to read the instructions on how to use the safe.

If for any reason you find that you forget your code, ask your Stateroom attendant as they have a way to access the contents of your safe in the event that you lock yourself out of it.

Don’t ask how we know this. :)

Mini Fridge

You will have a mini fridge, hidden in the desk, where you can keep bottled water or other items cold.

This is a great place to keep your bottled water or canned beverages you might bring from home.

There is no freezer compartment.

Blanket

Should you get cold, you’ll find a lightweight blanket in a cabinet.

Sounds crazy that you might get cold, but sometimes a little too much sun can make your body react with a slight chill.

Disney Cruise Door: Muppets

Another thing to mention is that all Disney Cruise staterooms have magnetic doors.

This means that you can decorate your door despite where it is located or the type of room you choose.
